 Response: Seeing as I am not in AP Language I think my experience in that class is pretty lackluster. I don't know how that class may be different from ours but if it is similar at all I would say doing the paperwork isn't too bad, I am able to understand the instructions most of the time and its all simple enough. I mainly struggle with class participation, I think most of the conversations we have in class just don't really interest me and they usually end up in arguments that I just don't really have the energy for. Summary: We began our cultural mask project. Reflection: I remember doing this project last year so it shouldn't be too bad.

Response: My gender identity follows me everywhere I go. A lot of people make base assumptions of me and my gender. I get called she almost daily by random strangers or people whispering about me. It is so plainly obvious how people think about me and my gender. Even other queer people can make it such a big deal, I can tell when they're looking at me and making a guess before either of us even open our mouths. Personally I wish it wasn't such a big deal but there's not much I can do about it right now. Summary: We did a commonlit Reflection: I think we have watched this Tedtalk before but I still found it interesting.

 Response: I enjoy worksheet work the most because I work better when I am able to pace myself. I can read through instructions as much as I need to. I like when I can work quietly and on my own. Sometimes when I have teachers or other students trying to butt into what i'm doing it'll mess me up and even confuse me more. I don't really like doing class discussions because I don't think they really go anywhere in this class but I am fine with the occasional hands-on activity to shake things up. Summary: We read a passage about stereotypes and answered questions about it. Reflection: I hadn't ever really thought about the impact of stereotypes on everyday life and how others interact with you. I found this passage pretty interesting.

 Response: I have been a gifted kid since I was in elementary school. Because of this I have been labeled as a smart kid who is good at all of my subjects without really ever having to try. People have asked me questions in class because I have been labeled the "smart kid" and there have been many times where I just stare at them blankly because I don't understand the question. A lot of teachers just assume I should know everything and will get extra frustrated with me because I am somehow supposed to know these things and it makes me really dejected when I dont know because they seem disappointed in me. Summary: We had an introduction to stereotypes. Reflection: I thought it was not very fun to think up stereotypes for a bunch of different groups of people.

 Response: Men are expected to dress a certain way that I could never really conform to. Fashion sense is usually reserved for women so a man adapting any sense of style, especially one like mine is seen as very feminine. Because of my sense of style many people have assumed I was a girl and told me that I must be a girm because of the way I dress. I have a wide variety of styles that I wear but I often get criticized for tucking in all my shirts and wearing my pants high waisted. Also since I dress semi-formal in my day to day I can get weird looks, especially from other men. Despite this I am very proud of my fashion sense even if it makes me feel a little ostracized from other men. Summary: We read "Girl" and answered questions about it. Reflection: I found this poem/passage a really interesting read. I think it portrayed expectations on women in a very engaging and unique style.

 Response: My inspiration for this was this poem itself. I was not super stoked to write this poem and spent all day thinking about what to write about so I turned that idea into the poem itself. I know I don't always put my 100 percent into this class but that doesn't mean I don't care about anything. There are things that I am very passionate about and I put a lot of effort into those things so when I am called unmotivated I feel offended. Summary: We presented our poems and read the I want a wife passage. Reflection: I think my poem presentation went pretty well. I forgot some of what I had written and couldn't read my own handwriting.

 Response: Last year my 5th period class was Drawing II in the fine arts building. When D lunch was dismissed me and my friends in that class decided that we didn't want to make the walk to the cafeteria every day so we instead started sitting out at the tables between the main building and the fine arts building. We did that for the majority of the year. When I talked about it with some of my other friends they found it weird that we didn't just go to the cafeteria and we also got told off by the security guard every now and then. Summary: We continued our gender roles notes. Reflection: It was pretty uneventful, the conversations were expected. Nothing outside of what I have already thought about.

 Response: I once felt completely lost today in my AP Calculus AB class. We have been taking notes on different types of limits and it has been getting progressively more complicated. On top of that I was really tired today and was going in and out of sleep. One thing about me is that I fall asleep really easily and can dream even when half asleep. All of this combined with trying to stay awake and follow the difficult classwork had me extremely lost and confused. My dreams were muddled with the shock of waking up and going back to sleep all on top of the work made today really difficult. Hopefully I will be able to look over the notes and catch up on my work so I don't feel so lost in class tomorrow. Summary: We started taking notes on gender roles and culture. Reflection: I found that most cultures in our class had fairly similar gender roles but we were still divided on specific gender stereotypes.

 Response: Now that I am in the second week of school I have mostly acclimated back to a school schedule. One of the biggest challenges I faced while getting used to the new school year was adjusting my sleep schedule. Over the summer I went to bed closer to midnight and woke up around 11 so having to wake up at 6 was a very big change for me. I am now trying to get to bed earlier than 11 but its kind of hard to fully adjust. Because of this I have been very very tired again and have been taking small naps during the day. One of my strengths this year has been doing my work on time. Summary: We read the "I Too" poem. Reflection: I remember reading this poem in your class last year, it was pretty good.

 Response: If someone tried to understand me only by my race they would miss things like where I grew up,my gender and my sexuality, which have all had a large impact on who I am as a person and how I act around others. A person is a combination of all their experiences and all the aspects of their identity. Taking away just one part of that identity strips that person of any complexity so trying to understand someone by just one bit of themselves like race is a complete disservice to their experiences and their life. Summary: We watched 3 videos about racial identity and answered questions in writable. Reflection: I found these videos really made me think about race in a way I hadn't before. I found discussion about it pretty interesting.

 Response: I think my gender and age are both very impactful parts of my identity. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community has forced me to really consider who I am as a person and what/who I value. My age has also led me to be more involved in social media and modern issues which has made me more perceptive to the world around me than older generations. I have felt pressure to change/hide parts of my identity before. There are some situations when it is best to not come out to people or just let them assume I am a girl so I can avoid conflict or a big argument. Summary: We read A Korean Dream. Reflection: I found the poem pretty interesting, I thought it really showed a tragic dissonance that so many people face.

Response: In my family it is frowned upon to start eating before everyone sits down at the table. I have gotten in trouble a lot of times for chowing down on my dinner before my parents even set their plates. This has been a tradition for as long as I can remember that is always more strict whenever we go to visit my mom's parents. This mirrors the ideas of cultural expectations by upholding the expectation of kindness, patience and manners. While manners aren't as strict as other families my mom especially still likes to stress the importance of a clean and polite exterior at the very least. Summary: We presented our names. Reflection: I found it really interesting to hear about everyone's names and stories behind them.

Prompt: My main goal for this academic year is to pass all of my classes with an A. As long as I have been in school I have gotten all As except for my AP Precalculus class which I got an 89 in last year so I hope to carry on those good grades until I graduate. I also hope to get 4s and 5s on my last 3 AP classes. I am taking AP Biology, AP Microeconomics and AP Calculus AB. Lastly I am hoping to figure out what I want to do after high school. While I am starting to think about college applications I am still kind of up in the air on what exactly I want to do. Summary: We set up our blogger account. Reflection: I am excited and kind of dreading a second year of blog posts.
