Judith Ortiz Cofer says, “The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?
Response: My gender identity follows me everywhere I go. A lot of people make base assumptions of me and my gender. I get called she almost daily by random strangers or people whispering about me. It is so plainly obvious how people think about me and my gender. Even other queer people can make it such a big deal, I can tell when they're looking at me and making a guess before either of us even open our mouths. Personally I wish it wasn't such a big deal but there's not much I can do about it right now.
Summary: We did a commonlit
Reflection: I think we have watched this Tedtalk before but I still found it interesting.
